Forgotten Festivals

Arts Partnership Surrey funded a historian to look into Surrey’s Forgotten Festivals. This was a response to the rising number of outdoor celebratory events across the county. The research resulted in a report with recommendations in February 07. 　

Forgotten Festivals aims to bring together the 2007 research with relevant events taking place or being planned in 2012. The steering group have looked into both promoting or developing existing events, as well as initiating events which fulfil their own priorities. All events would have their roots in historical celebrations in those areas. These would be listed on a Calendar of Events throughout the entire year. The project would be linked to the Cultural Olympiad in giving people the opportunity to celebrate through dance, music, drama and visual arts. Where possible events will be linked to key dates in the Olympiad programme.
